WELCOME TO OUR AUGUST E-NEWSLETTER
Dear *|FNAME|*,

Welcome to our Term 3 newsletter! In this newsletter, you'll find accurate, up-to-date resources to help you talk to your children about drugs and alcohol.

For many parents and families, there is still a lot of uncertainty when it comes to knowing the facts about e-cigarettes and vaping. Below you'll find information on our upcoming webinar which looks at emerging research into young people's views and habits around vaping, as well as our latest factsheet which unpacks the current laws which govern their sale, marketing and use in Australia.

Also, a friendly reminder that this Saturday 12th August is
International Youth Day, which recognises the right of every young person to live a safe, happy and healthy life!

Parents and families are crucial to protecting a child's physical and psychological wellbeing. This includes helping to minimise the chances that their child will use drugs and alcohol, or experience harms from their use.

An Australian study looking at e-cigarette use among Year 12 high school students found that 74% reported they had never used an e-cigarette or vaped, while those who reported engaging in risky drinking and cigarette smoking were most likely to also use e-cigarettes. Read more here.
A paper published in the Drug & Alcohol Review found that rates of adolescent substance use have declined over the past 10-15 years in Australia. It revealed that this decline seems to be driven by teens engaging in less risky behaviours, and not by teens living healthier lifestyles.
