WELCOME TO OUR NOVEMBER E-NEWSLETTER
Dear *|FNAME|*,

Welcome to our Term 4 newsletter!
This will be our final newsletter for 2023 as we approach the end of another school year!

For many parents, this can be a daunting time. Whether your teenager is heading away for Schoolies/Leavers' Week, or they're planning to attend a party to celebrate the end-of-year school holidays with friends, you may feel worried about how you can keep them safe.

It's important for young people to have opportunities to socialise with their peers outside of the school context. However, these events, particularly when they may involve alcohol or other drugs, can increase risk of harm among young people.

In this edition, we'll focus on this end-of school year party season and how parents can navigate teenage parties to minimise the risks involved if hosting these events, as well as ensuring your child is as safe as possible if attending them.

You'll also find new research on young people's behaviours around alcohol and e-cigarettes, plus information on recent changes to vaping regulation in Australia.

IN THE KNOW
An Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and other Drugs (APSAD) study found that more Australian adolescents who had permission to drink at home had drunk alcohol in the past month and experienced alcohol-related harms, compared to those without permission. Read more here.
Earlier this year, the Australian government announced that there would be 'crack down' on e-cigarettes and vaping. But what does that mean? And who will be impacted? This article by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation unpacks these changes to vaping regulation.
A study led by researchers at the University of Queensland found that young people's exposure and engagement with e-cigarette and tobacco-related content on social media was associated with pro-use attitudes towards e-cigarettes and vaping + increased use of such products. Read more here.
