Summary

Video length: 3:42

Think Smart is a hip-hop music video that explores the potentially harmful consequences of drinking alcohol, highlighting themes of self-respect, family, community, moderation and alcohol-fuelled violence.

Expected Benefits

  • Increased awareness of impact of alcohol on self and community.

Evidence Base

Expert review*:
The song and music video were developed in collaboration with Indigenous youth who reside in the Normanton community in Northern Queensland, Australia. Music videos that are culturally relevant and promote educational messages have the potential to motivate students who are less receptive to traditional lesson structures. For example, this video could be used in conjunction with a class activity where students write lyrics for their own hip-hop songs about the consequences of alcohol and/or drug use. The young people in the video use story-telling, music and dance to communicate different scenarios where alcohol has negatively affected the health, social and emotional wellbeing of the community.
