Amy (13 years), QLD

Hi, my name is Amy. I am 13 and I [am in Year 8]. I’m proud to identify as a young Aboriginal woman through my Father who is a proud Wakka Wakka man. Being a teenage girl it is important to me, and I am always striving to be the best version of myself, not only for me, but for the people I surround myself with. I aspire to be a professional sports woman, potentially soccer, and I believe that my positive choices (below) along with hard work and determination will help me get there. It is important for me to show the key values of a leader and I feel that making people feel comfortable, happy and safe is an important value of mine.

The following are the positive choices that I’m currently making and are choices that I will make in the future.

  • An Importance on education
    • Currently achieving A/B grade average in all my subjects
  • Playing team sport
    • I’m currently in the Girls sports academy at school (which I absolutely love)
    • I play soccer, touch football and athletics
  • Staying healthy both physically & mentally
    • My family understand the importance of eating a healthy balance diet
    • I have an open and honest relationship with my parents
  • Becoming a recognised leader at school
    • Currently a part of the Leadership program at school, in an attempt to be a Junior School Captain in Yr. 9 and potentially School Captain in Year 12.

In school I try to achieve and maintain ‘a’s and ‘b’s in all my subjects. I’m also in a leadership program at school, because I hope to become a captain of some sort in year 12. Sports is a massive part of my life. I play soccer, touch and also do athletics. In school I’m also in the Girls Sports and Fitness academy, which is pretty awesome. Keeping healthy physically and mentally is also very important to me, because I spent last year out of sport due to an operation, this had a big effect on me physically and mentally. Through my positive choices I believe that I can become a leader, not only for my family but for my people as well.
