Summary

Presented by Emily Jenkinson (Cancer Council NSW), Ciara Madigan (Cancer Council NSW), and Lauren Kinsella (NSW Health), this webinar will cover nicotine pouches and available resources.

Nicotine pouches are a relatively new product being seen in Australia that are becoming increasingly popular despite being illegal to purchase without a prescription. Nicotine pouches are small bags that users place between their lip and gum. They contain nicotine that is either synthetic or has been extracted from tobacco plants. The pouches also often contain sweeteners and flavours and are usually sold in small round tins.

This webinar will provide information about nicotine pouches and their impact on young people. It will provide updated findings from the Generation Vape study (a national research study of awareness, perceptions, and use of vapes in young people (14-17 years), and their parents and teachers). It will explain how these findings helped to inform the development of new resources, and introduce nicotine pouch resources for young people, parents, and school staff.

Following the presentation, there will be a Q&A session.

Expected Benefits

This webinar will provide:

  • Information on nicotine pouches and their potential harms
  • Up-to-date findings from the Generation Vape study
  • An introduction to new nicotine pouches factsheets and the development process
  • Practical tips for school communities
